Food Cravings And Diet Deprivation

Deprivation is often used in torture to break the will of a captive. Using this tactic in weight loss plans has always perplexed me. It’s counter intuitive, we should be building will power not breaking it down, which explains the high failure rates of so many diets. When you can’t eat the foods you love, they sit on the edge of your thoughts, taunting your senses, until you buckle in and overindulge the craving.

Maybe you think my imagery is melodramatic, but the obesity epidemic proves it’s a real struggle faced by millions. So fellow drama Queens and Kings, time to get a grip. Stop the depriving yourself and you will be more successful with your weight loss plan. Yippee! I just gave you permission to eat the gooey, triple chocolate brownie, hot fudge Sunday, right? Yes, but there’s a catch. Don’t eat the whole thing!

A recent study determined the more sugar we eat, the more sugar we crave. So make your life easier. Don’t deprive yourself of the dessert just eat less of it. Try one of these ideas:

1. Instead of eating dessert every night, reduce it to every other night.

2. If you absolutely have to have sweets every day to feel satisfied, reduce the portion to half or less.

3. Take the time to enjoy and savor your desert. Eat smaller bites, and chew longer.

4. Follow the 60 Minute Diet plan and you can eat your favorites foods every day.

Deprivation will always lead to falling off the wagon. Remember your goal is to create a new way of eating for life. A daily routine that YOU can live with. That means you have to satisfy your urges. You simply need to do it smarter.
