The Webster dictionary definition for diet is:
1 a: food and drink regularly provided or consumed b: habitual nourishment c: the kind and amount of food prescribed for a person or animal for a special reason d: a regimen of eating and drinking sparingly so as to reduce one’s weight 2: something provided or experienced repeatedly
A diet is not just for losing weight. A diet can actually be thought of as the way you eat. Try a different approach to your diet. Instead of thinking of your diet as a means to an end (weight loss) try thinking of it as the way you eat every day.
How can this help? Many ways. We continually battle with our inner self, attempting to justify what we eat, for example you’ve probably told yourself countless times, “it’s only one piece of cake.” But did you do anything that day to deserve that piece of cake? How about telling yourself, “I want that piece of cake tonight for dessert,” and then planning your food choices for the day accordingly.
When you stop saying, “I’m on a diet,” and start looking at your diet as the way to eat every day, you will gain a new perspective. It can help you take control. No longer will you deny yourself the cake, rather you will make yourself earn it.
There’s no way around it folks, if you want to be in control of your weight you have to be in control of your diet.
A diet shouldn’t be a temporary event, it should be embraced as either a: food and drink regularly provided or consumed. OR b: habitual nourishment. When a diet is considered a temporary event, the assumption is that you will not have to keep these eating habits forever. That’s why the weight goes back on after you’re off the diet. Embrace your diet as what you do every day going forward and you will begin to incorporate better eating habits one step at a time.
